The Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency provides public transit service available to all citizens and visitors of Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Story and Warren Counties in central Iowa, enhancing quality of life, enabling access to employment and education, and promoting independent lifestyles for central Iowa residents.
The Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency (HIRTA) provides door to door transit services in the counties of Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Story and Warren. All rides are open to the general public, including persons with disabilities. 100% of the HIRTA vehicle fleet is ADA-accessible and in accordance with the Iowa Smokefree Air Act of 2008, meaning HIRTA Public Transit does not discriminate on the basis of race, age, disability, religion, color, sex or national origin and smoking is prohibited on all HIRTA vehicles.
HIRTA is organized under an Iowa Chapter 28E Agreement to serve as the public transit services provider for the Iowa Department of Transportation's Region 11, including Central Iowa counties Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Story and Warren. Transportation service in Jasper, Marion, Story, and Warren County is provided directly by HIRTA. For transit services in other counties, HIRTA contracts with the following agencies:
