The Story County Quality of Life Alliance, a group of local public health, youth and family services organizations as well as the United Way of Story County, Story County government, and the City of Ames municipal government, is leading the process for the 2020 community needs assessment. The focus of the needs assessment is to determine the most important health and human services issues that need to be addressed in Story County and why those issues require attention.  Transportation is one element of the survey as one cannot get to their medical appointments without adequate transportation.

“By taking part in the survey, participants can voice concerns about issues affecting the well-being of Story County residents,” said Assistant City Manager Deb Schildroth who serves as an Alliance member. “Hearing from as many voices as possible gives us a better picture on where to focus service efforts and funding.”

Several methods of data collection are being used for the assessment. An online survey has been developed at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SCNeedsAssessment

Paper copies of the survey are available at the Ames City Hall, 515 Clark Ave; United Way of Story County, 315 Clark Ave.; YSS, 420 Kellogg Ave.; and other human services organizations. Outside of Ames, the survey is available at the Story County Administration Building, 900 Sixth St., in Nevada, and most libraries. Additionally, surveys can be requested by calling Gerri Bugg at YSS at 515.233.3141.

All survey responses are anonymous and confidential. The survey link will remain active until 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 1.

Effective January 1, 2020, CyRide will no longer be selling or offering HIRTA Bucks to be used for Dial-A-Ride service. CyRide will again be utilizing the yellow $1.00 (regular fare) tickets to be used to pay fare for Dial-A-Ride service. Discontinuing the HIRTA Buck for Dial-A-Ride service allows our customers more flexibility with the yellow tickets which can be used for Dial-A-Ride service as well as CyRide’s Fixed Route service. The fare for Dial-A-Ride will remain $2.00 per ride for Dial-A-Ride trips and of course cash fare is still accepted.

Yellow (regular fare) ticket books can be purchased at CyRide or through our other sales outlets at a cost of $10.00 for 10 tickets.

HIRTA Bucks can still be purchased through HIRTA and other outlets to be used for HIRTA services only, but NOT Dial-A-Ride services.   Please note that HIRTA Bucks can continue to be used for Dial-A-Ride service through January 31, 2020.   If you have any questions, please call CyRide at 515-292-1100 and ask to speak to CyRide's Operations Manager, Rob Holm.
