Non-Discrimination Policy

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act

Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act provides that "no person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance" (42 U.S.C. Section 2000d).

HIRTA Public Transit is committed to ensuring that no person is excluded from participation in, or denied the benefits of its transit services on the basis of race, age, disability, religion, color, sex or national origin, as protected by Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), HIRTA Public Transit will not discriminate and ensures equal opportunity and access for persons with disabilities.

The US DOT issued a Final Rule under the American Disability Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 which took effect on July 13, 2015. Per this final rule, HIRTA Public Transit is required to make reasonable modifications or accommodations to our policies and practices to ensure individuals with disabilities have equal access to HIRTA’s transit programs and services. The ADA does not require HIRTA Public Transit to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services.

Reasonable Modification

HIRTA is required to make reasonable modifications or accommodations to policies and practices to ensure individuals with disabilities have access to HIRTA's transit services.
